Abingdon Squash & Racketball Club once again hosted an exciting day of squash with two absolute legends of the sport, the magnificent brothers, Mohamed and Marwan Elshorbagy. The event was completely sold out and packed with entertaining squash and insights. Truly a memorable day was had by one and all!
The Oxfordshire County juniors had a chance to test their skills and learn from both Mohamed and Marwan, which was amazingly fun and inspirational.
The coaching clinic was followed by Oxfordshire coaches Jason Varrie and Ross Gore challenging Marwan and Mohamed in single games, each to 11. The challenges were played in good spirit, with very close scoring, resulting in Jason winning by 12-10 and Ross losing 11-9. Great efforts all round and Jason was thrilled to get one on Marwan. Perhaps next time, the coach challenge will be extended to best of 3!
The coach challenge was soon followed by the exhibition match. Mohamed and Marwan stepped up another level, displaying their incredible speed, agility, skill and movement, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats with every rally. The match was played in good humour, with the brothers having great banter between themselves and the crowd. Mohamed poking fun at Marwan at the start trying to remember who won last time round, of course it was Mohamed. However, this time around Marwan took the match 3-1, much to his delight!
The day finished off in the bar with a lively Q&A session and photos.
We extend our huge thanks to Mohamed and Marwan (and their parents) for gracing our event with their talent, knowledge and passion.
