My name is Matt Godson, I am the captain of both Pontefract Squash and Leisure Club and Yorkshire Squash. I also work as a Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. I am currently in my final year of my master’s degree and have taken on an exciting research project which I hope you may be able to support with.
The aim of my study is to identify the prevalence/incidence of injuries in squash players and in particular to identify any differences in trends between amateur and professional players.
The study also aims to analyse the impact of injuries, on participation/performance etc, and to identify risk factors associated with injury, including for example; equipment, court type and conditioning. My results may therefore help with developing improved strategies for managing both participation and performance, and I of course would be happy to share my findings with Oxfordshire Squash once the project is completed.
I am aiming to recruit several hundred players into the study, so I am hoping that you may be able to distribute this information to, and encourage participation within, as many of your clubs and players (both professional and amateur) as possible.
I have attached the participant information leaflet, and below is a link to my questionnaire, which should take players no longer than 15 minutes to complete. Players need only complete the questionnaire to participate in the study. The closing date is 31/10/2025.
Ethical approval for this study has been granted by the Chair of the Humanities, Social and Health Sciences Research Ethics Panel at the University of Bradford on 18th August 2025.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Matt
