Junior Squash in Banbury

Complementing the successful efforts to boost the involvement of youngsters in squash at Henley Squash Club, Banbury West End, principally in the guise of coaches Jenny Edwards and Jonathan Thompson, have implemented their own programme and in the face of severe adversity.

As many of you will know, the courts at Banbury West End were wrecked by storm floods putting not just an end to league matches at the venue but also to their upcoming junior development schedule. Undeterred and with successful ‘free’ Taster Sessions for local primary kids in the bag, the junior operation was shifted to Bloxham School.

Jenny was able to negotiate very favourable court rates with the school and aided by funding from OSRA, secured the services of qualified coaches. In just a very short time, numbers have built to 16 regulars split evenly from Young Beginner to Young Experienced.

Such has been the support Jenny has received, the youngsters are only charged £5 per hour for the Sunday sessions and all equipment is provided.

If you are looking to get your own Junior Programme up and running or need help with one in situ, I’m sure Jenny ([email protected]), Jim (at Henley – [email protected]) and Jason Varrie (County Coach [email protected]) can offer advice and we at OSRA ([email protected]) may be very willing to lend financial assistance.
