At the slightly unsociable hour of 10am, 18 players rocked up at Abingdon Squash Club on Sunday, October 4th for a ‘Calling The Shots’, a Marker’s Course run by England Squash. The Presenter was Paul Carter, former National Champion and England International who during his time as a Level 4 coach, played a part in the success of local stalwart and World Doubles victor, one Mark Cairns.
The main objectives were laid out:
- Learn how to make confident, fair decisions, without being influenced!
- Pick up smart strategies to stay calm under pressure
- Know when and how to apply the code of conduct
- Master the right terms and match announcements
- Build your club’s reputation for quality marking and fair play
- Feel inspired! Find out how to take the next step and become a referee
Feedback suggests it was a success on all levels and we can now look forward to smoothly managed and uncontroversial matches!
A few pictures below, perhaps not the most inspiring ever taken, but maybe with one eye on showing off Abingdon’s vast array of silverware!
Big thanks to Paul for his time and instruction and to Alan Horton for the use of the facilities
